Green Charter

When I was a young man, I wanted to change the world.  I found it was difficult to change the world, so I tried to change my nation.  When I found I couldn't change the nation, I began to focus on my town.  I couldn't change the town and as an older man, I tried to change my family.  Now, as an old man, I realize the only thing I can change is myself, and suddenly I realize that if long ago I had changed myself, I could have made an impact on my family.  My family and I could have made an impact on our town.  Their impact could have changed the nation and I could indeed have changed the world.  ~Author Unknown

There are times in our history where Mankind has had to make moral decisions which have had far reaching effects on the ethos of the society that we live in today, in this day however because of the decisions we have made in the past which has enabled each and everyone of us to have a free say in the majority of the societies around the globe the future generations are looking upon all individuals and not just the leaders that we blindly put into power to react in a manner that will hopefully help save this planet and begin to steer our society to one that is able to sustain itself on the only place the human race can call home.

The Free the Green Monster Eco-System is built to encourage and help members and partners to build a lifestyle that is based on Sustainability. Sustainability is as we see it is the ability of humans to endure on this planet, we all have a responsibility to maintain the Earth, we have nobody to clean up after us but ourselves and our future depends on the behaviour of people living in this day and age. People living one hundred, two hundred even five hundred years from now will hopefully be able to say that this era was one occupied by a mass of individuals, people who stood up when leaders would not, people who decided to change the way they lived and made decisions which promoted sustainability and supported commerce that prized itself in being sustainable. We must ensure that our planet remains diverse and productive for its long term future.

The decision to commit to this lifestyle should not be taken lightly as it is a firm promise to yourself and the FTGM community to continuously strive to live up to these collective standards. It is only through mass participation that true change can be effected in our behaviour, we want to encourage all members and partners of the site to use the tools that this platform presents to you to drive that change, we want you to encourage those within your spheres of influence to partake on this undertaking to temper humanities behaviour to a level that will allow us to remain on this planet for its remaining future.

We are still young in the quest for sustainability but need to begin somewhere, humankind has shown in the past that during the times of the greatest peril we are able to band together as brothers and sisters to our most testing challenges. In this day and age the demon that we face is that of our own growth and consumption and this charter looks to propel you to begin this fight with the following principles:

1)      We need to cancel our dependence of fossil fuels and petroleum based products as it is futile to build a society and infrastructure off something that is like a drug to a drug addict and will destroy us in the end. We need to begin building an infrastructure that uses the unlimited sources of energy that our home provides us with being the sun, the moon and the wind. Harnessing this technology will take us further into the universe then we have ever dreamed and will expand our years through millennia.

2)     We must look to cut down on the amount of first phase production that we go through, recycling and producing our everyday wears to be recycled is going to provide far more of everything for our ever growing population.

3)     We need to conserve the nature around us, our trees and the micro organisms in our oceans are the life blood to our to our lungs and therefore the foundation for life on earth, we need to make the effort to curb the pollution and damage that we are causing our oceans and begin to make an effort to conserve our forests, people need to support (forests that are sustainable).

4)     Water is perhaps the largest Achilles heel of life on this planet, we cannot survive without it yet there is only a finite amount of fresh water available to us and the conversion of sea water to fresh water is costly and requires a lot of energy. We must look to install methods of water conservation in our homes and recycle fresh water into other forms for other uses whenever possible.

5)     We need to educate the human population of the fact that we are in this struggle and that life on earth cannot be sustained walking the road we are currently on.

6)     We need to invest our money into the growth of companies that support the principles stated above.

It is our objective to encourage people to follow these guidelines but the concept of sustainability is so young that we are really leaving this charter to be interpreted as the platform on which we can grow a society that will be at peace with itself and with the planet around it but will also looks to grow and innovate and explore the unknowns around itself but doing this in a sustainable manner.
